If you haven’t been to one of our concerts before and you’re wondering if it is for you then read on…
What sort of music do you play – will I recognise anything?
The music we play is a mixture of classic music and modern pieces – particularly film themes and medleys from West End musicals so there will be plenty of familiar tunes. Unlike orchestras the music played by concert bands tends to be shorter (most pieces are under 10 minutes) so you’ll hear lots of different pieces during the concert which typically lasts around two hours including an interval.
Are small children welcome?
Absolutely. We’re big fans of Disney and Pixar and usually manage to include music from one of their films in most concerts! And if they get bored and want to do some colouring or go to sleep then we won’t be at all offended. It is also free admission for under 16s (please check the advert for the individual concert as we occasionally need to change the ticket pricing structure).
How easy is it to access concert venues?
We use a variety of venues for our concerts and they should all have accessible entrances and accessible toilets. If there is not parking at the venue itself then we indicate the nearest parking on the concert advert. However, if you have any questions or concerns then please don’t hesitate to contact the band <secretary@abingdonconcertband.org.uk> and we can either answer you directly or we will follow up with the venue.
A lot of your concerts are in churches…
Yes, we use local churches quite regularly as they are often central, have good acoustics and are lovely buildings. However, the concerts themselves are secular performances and audience members of any faith are very welcome.
Any other questions
We’re always looking to expand our audience so if you aren’t a regular concert goer and you have questions then please just drop us an email secretary@abingdonconcertband.org.uk and we’ll be happy to answer them, and we look forward to seeing you at an Abingdon Concert Band concert soon!
